Maize & Soybean Purchases
100,000kgs of Maize and 3,500kgs of Soyabeans purchased annually during harvest is split between the Farm for making animal feed, making mealie (used in Zambia's main dish, nshima) for Conferences and farm staff, and Fimpulu Christian for the feeding program. This is an all around win-win the community. Buying locally produced maize is less expensive than buying from commercial suppliers and village household incomes are increased. We would like to slightly increase the amount we purchase this year in anticipation of a potential drought year and cost increases.
Livestock Renovation
Zambia weather is hard on structures. Currently, all of our poultry and small animal pens are without roofs and are unusable. Three of nine were rennovated last year and we'd like to finish the project. This will allow us to return to full production and income generation for the farm. With an increasing number of school and farmer groups attending our training, it's helpful to show proper poultry and livestock production practices.
