If you know me, you know I'm not a runner. The thought of running marathon makes my old knees buckle! But I'm joining this race anyway (albeit the 5k and I'll be walk-running) because this cause means so much to me.
Ronald McDonald House Charities was there for my family 23 years ago when we had to travel to Philadelphia for life-altering treatment for Jordan. They kept our family close by providing a warm bed, hot meals, transportation to and from the hospital daily and all the smiles, comfort and support we needed to help get us through that time in our lives.
Fast forwarding to the present, I've been lucky enough to work for RMHC-KC for the last 15 years, meeting and supporting families every day who are in the fight of their lives dealing with their own child's critical illness.
