On July 18th, 2026, Darby and I will be hitting the trail for the 26th annual Seek the Peak fundraiser!

If you know us, you know we are out in the White Mountains year-round. Whether I’m out trail running with Darby, enjoying a personal hike, or working as a professional mountain guide, the Mount Washington Observatory is a vital part of our daily routine. We rely heavily on their twice-daily forecasts, the audio (mp3) forecasts, live summit conditions data, and summit webcams to plan smart, safe trips before we even lace up our boots.

Back in February of this year, I actually had the incredible privilege of doing an overnight stay right up at the Observatory. Getting to meet the weather observers firsthand was unforgettable. They are an incredibly committed, highly knowledgeable crew of folks who work around the clock in some of the most brutal conditions on Earth, serving as an unmatched resource for our entire outdoor community.

Because MWOBS is a non-profit institution, they rely on hikers like us to keep their vital operations moving forward. For over 90 years, they’ve maintained one of North America's longest continuous climate records right from the "Home of the World’s Worst Weather."
