If you know me, you know I love the mountains. And not just any mountains, but the White Mountains of NH. In particular Mount Washington feels like home to me. I visited the summit for the first time as a child, and from then on I knew I wasnted to "be a meteorlogist and live in New Hampshire." Not exactly the astronaut or princess dreams of most children, but the amazing thing is, I got to do exactly that. In the summer of 2017, I interned at the legendary Mount Washington Observatory, where I got to do research, forecast the extreme weather, and educate others. Since then, I have been participating in Seek the Peak, MWObs' annual fundraiser. It's my tenth year, and I want to make it my biggest!
Why donate? Here are some examples:
- You want to help other people have the same experience I did. The internship I had was life changing--I became a better forecaster, a more confident scientist and educator, and made memories that are some of my most dear. I made connections with people from NOAA, met teachers from all over the country, and got unparalleled work experience.
- You care about climate change. Mount Washington has a historical climate record reaching back to the 19th century. The non-profit observatory is crucial in seeing how the changes in our climate are impacting our forests, mountains, and valleys.
- You're an educator, or believe that education is important, and know that kids of all ages can be impacting by Mount Washington's mission. I was that kid once: curious, full of questions, and full of wonder. Mount Washington offers field trips both in-person and virtual to children and adults across the country. They share history, meteorology, and more with every person they get to impact.
- You love cats! Nimbus is the current kitty on the summit. I lived with Marty. There have been cats on the summit for decades, reaching back to the wind speed record in 1934. Your donation can help feed Nimbus. While that sounds silly, summit cats are responsible for mousing and important outreach opportunities!
- You forgot to give me a birthday present. It's okay, all is forgiven. :)
In July of 2026 I'll be participating in the 26th annual Seek the Peak, a hiking fundraiser in support of the legendary non-profit Mount Washington Observatory. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support my endeavor.
Due to the generosity of supporters like you, the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory has been observing and reporting on Mount Washington’s infamous conditions for 90+ years from their mountaintop weather station, maintaining one of North America's longest continuous climate records. The data they collect is utilized in forecasting models, weather reports, landmark climate research and educational outreach. The free daily forecasts that the Observatory provides are an essential resource for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors in New Hampshire's White Mountains and beyond.
Please join me in supporting this storied institution by making a donation towards my outdoor adventure. All gifts are fully tax-deductible and will help Mount Washington Observatory continue their important work in the Home of the World’s Worst Weather.
