Supporting the Mount Washington Observatory

Why We Support and How You Can

Paul and I like to hike, but did you know that we support the Mount Washington Observatory. We value the work of the Observatory as described below. If you are interested in the weather, geology and/or hiking, you will appreciate what the observers, the educators and the scientist do. Read on!

Mount Washington Observatory has been observing and reporting on Mount Washington’s infamous conditions for 90+ years from their mountaintop weather station, maintaining one of North America's longest continuous climate records. The data they collect is utilized in forecasting models, weather reports, landmark climate research and educational outreach. The free daily forecasts that the Observatory provides are an essential resource for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors in New Hampshire's White Mountains and beyond.

Over the years, we have participated in the Observatory’s annual fundraiser, Seek the Peak, by hiking Mount Washington, or “The Rock Pile” as the mountain is affectionately called. In the past couple/few years, participants were given the option to seek other peaks. Paul and I chose to hike Mount Osceola for the 26th Annual Seek the Peak on Wednesday, June 17, which was a a perfect day to summit the peak with cooler temperatures and partly cloudy skies.

We chose to participate in Seek the Peak AND volunteer at the at the Aprés Hike Celebration at Wildcat Mountain Resort on Saturday, July 18. Should be a busy and fun day!

Please join us in supporting the Mount Washington Observatory by making a donation towards our outdoor adventure. Our team is "Western NH Duo". All gifts are fully tax-deductible and will help the Observatory continue the important meteorological and educational work in the Home of the World’s Worst Weather.
