In 2008, I was one of thousands of volunteers who passed through the gates of Camp Hope right outside New Orleans, LA. Like so many others, I was shocked by the destruction that Hurricane Katrina raged on the area, and I was excited to do my small part to help out. For one week, I helped build a home for a deserving family who had lost it all. I had a blast, made a ton of friends, and felt like I had really made a difference.

It was easy to answer the call following a huge natural disaster. But what about the rest of the time?

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't participated on a Habitat site since 2008. It is so easy to go on and forget without a huge crisis to remind us that there are so many deserving families right in our community that need our help.

That's why I'm so excited to particpate in the Women Build 2019. Women Build is a national initiative to provide safe and decent homes for families in need of affordable housing. By recruiting, educating and inspiring those in our community to fundraise and build, participants can transform lives in our communities. Help me reach my goal by May 2, 2019 to beneift families in the Lake-Sumter communities!
