Homelessness is a social cause/injustice that has bothered me since the time I moved to Boston in 1982. I grew up in relatively small towns and cities and homelessness was both new and troubling to me when I first arrived here. It's still very troubling to me and a lot of the charitable contributions I've made to organizations in the Boston area have been related to ending homelessness or providing services for the homeless. Three key causes of homelessness include: mental health challenges, drug addiction, and the lack of affordable housing in big cities like Boston. These are NOT the only causes, but they are top causes. I believe we can tackle all three and greatly reduce the number of individuals who have to live the hard life they do on Boston's streets.
