This isn't about me, it's about Diana Mccomb.

I first met Diana while we were waiting for class to start at FLXfitclub in Ithaca. She was warm and welcoming and I looked forward to seeing her each week. It's amazing how friendships can flourish at a fitness studio. It's like a house of worship; you see the same people every week, you have a shared experience, and you leave feeling uplifted in some way. 

I was hopeful that Diana and I would become close friends but alas it was not to be because of her illness. Still, I was struck by her kindness an generosity. And I enjoyed getting to know about her life. In her youth she was a Peace Corp volunteer, and later she studied to become a social worker. She loved spending time with her family. Her home was filled with mementos from her world travels and she never lost her curiousity about others. I came to hold her in even higher esteem when she became ill. She handled her diagnosis and prognosis with her characteristic grace. She was clear eyed and certain about her decision to enter hospice, when the time came. Toward the end, she hosted a gathering of friends at her home and it was there that I learned that she had nourished many lifelong friendships. She was loved!  

It was an honor to be asked to join Diana's Divas swimteam (though Diana was anything but a diva!). Won't you make a contribution in her honor?
