My Write-a-thon Information!

I am not a writer - I just write. From time to time. This is my first Write-a-thon participation. During July I will write for both the Write-a-thon and Camp NaNoWriMo.

My Writing Goals

My goal for these 6 weeks is supposed to be manageable:

  • one story per week
  • length: in the gray area between a long Flash and a short Short
  • genre: still clueless, but surely something weird/silly/speculative
  • language: English (not my native language)

If time permits my weekly stories will be edited (by my wife; her English is better than mine) and published on my blog.

PS: the avatar shows my cameo in Mark Siegel's graphic novel "Sailor Twain or The Mermaid in the Hudson".

Days

He woke up with a laugh, well prepared for the new day.

At his workplace he laughed at his colleagues' jokes, and at the work assignments he got that day.

Leaving the office, he witnessed an accident, where a car hit someone crossing the road, his briefcase flying through the air. It was difficult to laugh at that, but he managed.

Back at home, an episode of "Mr. Bean" had him laugh and giggle happily, without much effort.

With a quiet laugh he went to sleep, already mentally preparing for the difficult day ahead, which was Weeping Day.

Writing Progress

Week 1: "The Lottery Win" finished!

  • Wrote 3 words on Day 1. Yes, the title! Very important!
  • Changed 2 of those words on Day 2. Progress?!?!
  • Prepping done - words start to flow!
  • 1st draft of "The Lottery Win" has been finished with 1800+ words.
  • A voice in my head asks "What's next?", but I have no answer yet.
  • Story has been edited and is now online.

Week 2: "The Whiteboard Mystery" drafted

  • A weird idea from last night. It seems my 2nd vaccination triggered my immune system so hard that all weird ideas are being throwns out at once!
  • Started to write but still have no idea what the end might be. Luckily it's still Monday.
  • 1st draft of "The Whiteboard Mystery" done with ~1000 words. I am not really happy with it. Was struggling hard with the ending.

Week 3: "What Stories Tell" finished / prepping "Home Sweet Home"

  • I already have a beginning and an end. Now I only have to connect the dots!
  • 1st draft completed with only 500+ words.
  • "What Stories Tell" has been edited and is now online.
  • Started prepping for "Home Sweet Home", an episode for a future novel.
  • Rewrote the ending of my week 2 story. It's better now, but still not good.

Week 4: "Home Sweet Home" drafted

  • This week it'll be another episode for my "Guardian Angelcy" novel.
  • Though I had a few lazy days, I still got the first draft (1000+ words) in time.

Week 5: "Schrödinger, the Cat" finished

  • "Home Sweet Home" is now edited and online.
  • Have started with story #5 which will probably only be a Flash. Yet another silly idea.
  • "Schrödinger, the Cat" is done and online.

Week 6: writing "#6" - delayed

  • Started writing ny 6th story.
  • Some personal matters slowed down my writing of the final story. I will complete it in August.
