SKD KITCHENS Team Fundraising Page

We are participating in the WALK TO END HUNGER on November 26th along with our Team SKD Kitchens! We'll be walking outdoors on Thanksgiving Day**, and doing it for our own health along with our efforts to help others.

Please support us and our participation in the Walk to End Hunger by making a donation, registering to walk with us (actually in the same location or in a location of your own--including in your house or yard--whatever works best for you), or by sharing and inviting others to participate in some way.

Walk with us and/or donate to help out!

Donate to help us raise at least $5000 this year and the dollars raised will be shared with several organizations participating in this year's Walk.

It's an ESPECIALLY important year to ensure that we fully fund organizations focused on providing food and meals for individuals, families, kids, and all who experience food scarcity (or the possibility of it). We don't want anyone to be worried about where they might get a next meal or whether they can afford groceries. We don't want anyone to have a concern about choosing between meals or medications.

You might be aware that members of SKD Kitchens (Scott and Karen) help to provide a weekly community meal in partnership with the Loaves & Fishes organization and Cathy Maes. Every Wednesday, since January 1, 2020, we have served a nutritious and delicious meal FREE to anyone who comes. It started as an indoor meal, and as of mid-March became a drive-up-to-go meal and we regularly serve 200 or more meals to guests who come each and every week! Your donation, participation and support of the Walk to End Hunger will help to ensure that the groceries and ingredients used to make the Loaves and Fishes community meal in Farmington will be provided for as long as needed! Scott is also known all over Farmington as "Chef Scott" because of the care he takes in making sure no one goes hungry--he trains and works with church and community volunteers to prepare and serve great meals and we all work to be sure that there are no barriers or judgements regarding guests who come.

You might be aware that SKD Kitchens has been friends with Neighbors, Inc. and we have helped to raise support for them in the past. They are an organization that provides groceries and clothing to many people in northern Dakota and southern Ramsey counties. Karen went to college with Beth Johnson Skwira, who heads up many things at Neighbors' Inc and we all do this work to help as many people as we can! SKD Kitchens, including Scott, Karen, Darby (SKD) and many other family and friends have walked and raised funds and have personally donated support to many of the organizations seeking funding this year.

You might be aware that (Karen) worked for several years with Steve Griffiths and others at Impact Services, a provider of Meals on Wheels in Anoka County and the surrounding area. I worked as the Community Relations Coordinator and then after I moved on into church work, I became a member of the board of directors there for a couple of years. This year's walk helps Meals on Wheels in Minnesota, too!

We are asking you to join us in this year's efforts knowing that together, we'll make a difference.

Join our Team or Donate to me and/or our Team SKD kitchens efforts today!

Together, we will make a difference for the 1 in 5 families in the Twin Cities who struggle to put food on the table. We know that the amount of need is greater because of layoffs and other circumstances in the middle of the pandemic, and we know that every single thing we do matters!   THANK YOU!!

We love you!! You are a blessing to us and to so many,
Karen and Scott and the SKD Kitchens' Team

P.S.  If you’d rather make a donation by cash or check (payable to Walk to End Hunger) that's just fine.  Donations may be sent to:

**THANKSGIVING DAY OUTDOOR WALKS: The SKD Kitchens' Team will be walking a route around Farmington starting in the parking lot at Faith Church at 9am on Thanksgiving Day and walking a route around town highlighting Caring Hearts in Action, the Farmington Food Shelf, and other locations as well!  There will also be a map available for those who want to do a similar in Rosemount!  We'll stay a recommended distanced from each other so we can do this together safely, if you'd like to join us.  If you're joining us, be sure to register as a member of the SKD Kitchens' Team for a $25 (or more) donation if you're able--not required. If you like, you can ask a few friends/neighbors to share in a donation with you and donate $25 together--$5 each, for example).  Walkers and rollers welcome!  Join us with a wheelchair or scooter if needed! Walk with us a block or two, or walk for an hour or more!
