I'm raising money for our big annual community friend-raiser, Bark on the Boards!
Why, you ask?
Let's start with Meep. Meep is the kitten in my profile picture. He was found as a stray at just a few weeks old with HORRIBLE eye infections.
He cried and wouldn't eat and cried some more. His original foster felt it was too much, so I took him in.
To be honest, we weren't sure he would make it. I force fed him the first few days, as he continued to cry.
I worked with our Operations team to brainstorm ways to get calories in him and to make sure we kept his pain level down.
Finally he got over that hump and began to eat. He lost one eye and I continued to treat the other. He was mostly blind (if not totally) and yet, after that, he learned everything so fast. He learned to use the litter box in 1 day. He magically scratched on a scratching post the first time he stepped on it. His confidence grew and grew and though he couldn't see them, he'd do his best to find my resident cats. He played with my pittie, who absolutely adored him. He was ballsy, climbing things, avoiding walls, and loving every second of it.
When he was ready for adoption, a family who had previously adopted a blind cat from us camp forward. They loved him immediately and though we miss him, he's now living his best life. He has a cat brother. He lives at college with his human girl and is the cool kid in school.
He went from a small kitten in pain without a chance to live, one many would give up on, to this cat who is LOVING LIFE.
None of this would have been possible without the work we do, which is not possible without support of our community.
There are so many others I could tell you about. Those with medical conditions, those with behavioral challenges, those who are just young or old or a little special. They've been given a second chance at life through our work.
