I need YOUR help!

Our team, The Eliminators, has been walking with RI APDA since 2014! We walk in honor of David Portman and in memory of Sally Portman and Sally Fay.

Why I Walk...

"My dad, David Portman, is 87 years old and lives in Naples, FL. God willing, he’ll celebrate his 88th birthday this October. Last Christmas, Dad and Mom, Stephanie, marked 65 years of marriage.

Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s over 15 years ago. His mother also lived with Parkinson’s for several years before passing away in her 70s. On my mom’s side, her mother developed Parkinson’s symptoms in her late 80s. So, this disease touches both sides of my family in a very personal way.

These days, my dad uses a walker, but he remains committed to staying active. He does daily exercises, attends a weekly Parkinson’s exercise class, goes to water aerobics a few times per week, and works with a physical therapist. Staying engaged and moving has made a real difference in his quality of life.

Beyond exercise, Dad enjoys bridge, reading, puzzles, discussing history and current events, and watching sports. But most of all, he loves time with family — with his three daughters, our husbands, and his six grandsons. He often reminisces about the incredible travels he shared with my mom over the years, exploring the world together.

I walk for my dad, for my family, and for all those living with Parkinson’s. Supporting APDA and the Optimism Walk is my way of honoring him and helping ensure that others have the resources, community, and hope they need." - Sue Price
