Margaret Palombo has loved the gift of “seeing” since childhood and has always been fascinated by how what we see allows us to feel. This observational curiosity nourished her love for visual arts.
She earned a degree in Studio Art and Art History studying at Rutgers, Parsons School of Design and the University of Vermont. Margaret taught elementary education and fine arts at a private school in New Jersey before moving to Vermont in 2001 with her husband and five children. She considers teaching art to children, one of the most fun and satisfying experiences she’s ever had, “there’s nothing quite like encouraging people to explore art and expression”. She continued to work in private schools until 2007 when she began employment at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
Honored to be the Festival Artist for the 20th anniversary year and after looking through many images of the event, she chose to focus on the Flower Ceremony. The inspiration flowed from the breathtaking boats adorned with the passionate, brave, fearless dragon heads, the vibrant, human arms outstretched, the glistening water, the brilliant sky, the sturdy, bright, sunflowers being caste into the air with the power of prayers, memories, heartache and hope. She was trying to capture all of it, intentionally employing very delicate materials. Paper, watercolor, and ink…transient and light yet powerful and transcendent."
