Hello! My name is Johnathan Hernandez but everyone knows me as Johnny! I am a 1st year missionary for Biking for Babies which I am very pumped about! I am from Fort Wayne South Bend Diocese, which, fun fact, is the home of the fighting Irish (University of Norte Dame). At the moment for my day job I am a construction worker, but when I am not working I love helping with local ministries here in my Diocese. I am a person who just desires to serve, love, and share the good news of the Lord deeply.
It was because of this love that I found a calling to join the mission of Biking for Babies! I first learned of Biking for Babies at a event called SEEK in Columbus, Ohio. I had never heard of it before. After having a conversation with them there was desire in me of learning more and a strong intrest of joining the mission. When thinking about the aspects of sacrificing for another, community, and especially love for life help my decision to join Biking for Babies.
This summer I join the mission as a rider who will embark on a 600 mile bike ride from Green Bay to St. Louis to raise awareness for life and also to support pregnancy resource centers that help provide care for women. It is very exciting to be able to raise awareness and be apart of the culture for life.
You may ask: why would I want to bike for 600 miles? I believe that I recently have been called to learn more about and take action for the Culture of life. In the past I didn't understand or didn't much to get to understand it. Now, as I grow in my faith, I see that the regard for life is diminishing, and there is a need to refocus ourselves on how we should see life. See it through the eyes of Our Lord. Then, to offer one's self for a cause or for someone else is amazing. To remember that this journey to Heaven is not a journey you take alone. Redemptive sacrifice is something that I always needed to remember, and with this mission it reminds me to offer it for people in need. That our effort has power when tied with Christ!
