Welcome to My Fundraising Page

One year ago, I never imagined I would become a runner.

In July 2025, our daughter Sophia began the journey that would forever change our family. After months of searching for answers, she was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect called Anomalous Aortic Origin of a Coronary Artery (AAOCA). A few months later, she underwent open-heart surgery at Nemours Children’s Hospital.

As a mother—and as a nurse practitioner—I understood the medical terms, but nothing could prepare me for watching my own child face open-heart surgery.

One moment that will always stay with me was watching Sophia complete her cardiac stress test before surgery. Running, something that should have brought her joy and freedom, had become something that wasn’t safe for her. As I watched her that day, I made a quiet promise in my heart: I would run for her.

That promise became part of my own healing.

This October, I’ll be running my very first 5K alongside my family during the Nemours Children’s Hospital Run & Walk. Every mile represents gratitude—for the physicians, nurses, therapists, and staff who cared for Sophia, and for the hope they gave our family during one of the most difficult seasons of our lives.

Today, Sophia is recovering, growing stronger, and looking forward to the future. We know that not every family receives the same outcome, which is why supporting children’s heart care is so important to us.

While Sophia was on this cruise without me , she would text me about “ having that feeling in her chest “ which at the time I thought was just anxiety . When she got back from this cruise she was seen by a cardiologist for the first time.
