The Student Healthcare Project is a community health clinic that was founded in 2011 to provide free medical services to low-income, underinsured and uninsured residents living throughout San Diego County.
Licensed medical professionals, nursing faculty and undergraduate and graduate nursing students volunteer each week at the clinics to serve approximately 75 child and adult patients weekly at clinics in Carlsbad, Escondido, Ocean Beach and Normal Heights.
Medical services include researching free prescriptions for patients; health screenings; giving vaccines; laboratory services; assisting with social services or case management; providing medical treatments, mental health services, hygiene care items, sexual and reproductive health information, and chronic disease management; and helping patients to apply for MediCal or other health benefits.
Your donations help student nurses learn firsthand what it takes to provide health care to underserved populations. Under the guidance of faculty and medical professionals, student nurses build compassion and dedication that will inform their research and practice. The beauty of the Student Healthcare Project is that it not only supports higher education in the medical field, but it also is a gift to the community.
