Many of our CHABSS students are the first in their family to pursue a college degree. Our students regularly work hard both in the classroom and in the jobs they need to support themselves and their families. In spite of their dedication and discipline, CHABSS students need our support to take advantage of academic development opportunities that contribute to their education, assist in knowledge creation, and set them up for success in life beyond college. In fact, many of our students go on to contribute to their communities through the service and education they have received in CHABSS.
As a community of educators, change-makers and scholars, CHABSS seeks to provide funds for students to attend or present at professional conferences, conduct research, participate in internship and study abroad experiences, and many other academically related opportunities. We need your generosity to continue to offer this support to our students.
CHABSS Student Success funds helped the students pictured above travel to Belize over the summer for field study with archaeology professor Dr. Jon Spenard. “From the thrill of carefully removing dirt from the ground and uncovering a two thousand-year-old pot, to the revealing of a story of a rain ritual performed in the past told by a simple stone knife and pile of charcoal, there’s no other way to master the skills except by working on an excavation site and seeing, feeling and digging your hands into the earth and coming face-to-face with the past. These are truly the experiences that cannot be replicated in the classroom,” Spenard says.
