The Faculty Mentoring Program (FMP) at CSUSM serves students who are first generation and/or economically disadvantaged in their journey to receive their undergraduate degree. We do this by cultivating sustainable relationships between faculty mentors and our FMP student proteges. Faculty mentors provide students with social and instrumental support so that students find the resources they need, engage in new leadership opportunities, and plan for their future. And now, the Faculty Mentoring Program needs your help!
The FMP has demonstrated success, particularly in the areas of graduation and leadership. For example, FMP transfer students graduate at higher rates (74.7%) than non-FMP transfer students (57.9%). In addition, students mentored through the FMP are more likely to go on to graduate school, and FMP alumni report that what they learned through the program not only benefited them while at CSUSM but continues to benefit them well after they graduate. Will you help the Faculty Mentoring Program continue to make a difference in these students’ lives?
In order to maintain the program’s current status — facilitating 7-10 events or workshops a semester, offering students scholarships for post-graduate testing, and providing students with their cap and gown upon graduation — we need help. Our goal is a modest one: $500 (which can provide 2-3 scholarships). We hope to exceed our expectations and earn even more.
