Leadership Programs at CSUSM includes:
- Peer Leadership Team -- 15-20 student leaders who volunteer to mentor TLC 200-300 graduates annually
- Our TLC students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences so our Peer Leaders play an important role in making them feel welcome and connected to campus
- Peer Leaders are involved in research, service, and involvement across multiple areas on campus bringing value to our team and their connection to current TLC students
- Peer Leaders are responsible for the set-up and success of our weekly service project painting murals with individuals with intellectual disabilities (M:POWR) which is recognized for creating world peace by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
- All Peer Leaders attend regular trainings and conferences to learn communication styles, supporting international students, students in distress, and leadership theories
Needs
The Peer Leadership Team adds immense value to the Tukwut Leadership Circle through their peer-to-peer interactions. Each peer leader connects with 10-15 students to help them get engaged on campus.
There is a growing interest in our leadership certificate program and, therefore, a growing need to expand our Peer Leadership Team and their training and development
Funds raised through CSUSM’s Giving Day would go toward the annual team retreat, leadership conference, graduation regalia, and food for the team during our monthly trainings.
