As a fully fee-funded area, we are seeking opportunities to avoid increasing student fees and continue to expand programs offered. New Student and Family Programs oversees CSUSM's orientation programs, Weeks of Welcome, transfer success initiatives, onboarding support for new students and their families, Orientation Team leaders and newly added expansion of family programs.
The mission of New Student and Family Programs is to orient and support students and their families in a successful transition throughout their first year. Through innovative and inclusive programs and practices, informed by the co-curricular model, New Student and Family Programs builds connections to academic resources and involvement opportunities in support of retention and attainment to degree. Programs are intentionally designed to foster a sense of belonging and Cougar spirit, providing a foundation for holistic student development.
Giving Day fundraising initiatives include:
- Funding compensation incentives and leadership development opportunities (i.e. parking permits, uniforms, leadership retreat, training and morale events) for the volunteer Orientation Team leaders
- Maintaining the rising costs of orientation materials, catering and campus spirit initiatives
- Expanding existing and establishing new family programs (high school parent nights, move-in support, family weekends, scholarship funds, etc.) to enhance student success, retention and attainment to degree
- Broadening alumni and family connections with new students via traditions night, commencement initiatives, etc.
