Hello Friends!

I'm so excited to share the details of my upcoming volunteering commitment with CAM, the Capuchin Appalachian Mission.

This July I will be spending 9 days joyfully ministering to the residents of Harlan, Kentucky. The Walk-a-Thon in June is just the precursor :) Once in Appalachian, my CAM cohort’s service will include building projects to improve substandard housing; outreach to provide families with food, supplies, and clothing; a free Vacation Bible School for local children who otherwise might not have safe and supervised care; and support to seniors and those living with chronic illnesses.

While CAM’s history spans over 3 decades, the broader missionary work of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars started in the 1870s when they began ministering to the area’s underserved and under-resourced communities. Sadly, today’s Harlan County is still very much in need with over 40% of the population living below the poverty line. Chronic financial hardship manifests in poor health, limited education, employment challenges, social and psychological consequences, and generational effects.

Please consider supporting CAM so that we may offer the residents of Harlan County the love, respect, and care that every human being deserves.

Contributions are utilized in concrete ways and in real time such as buying plywood and nails for house repairs; stocking and maintaining the food pantry; purchasing educational materials; and even gas for the CAM vehicles to be able to get to those members of the community who are homebound.
