Patience is a 16-year-old Duruma girl from Kilifi County and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She lives with her father, grandmother, three siblings, aunt, and cousins in a mud house with an iron-sheet roof. To get to her previous school, Patience walked five kilometers each day. Her greatest challenge has been missing school due to being sent home frequently for unpaid fees. Basic necessities were also scarce, adding to her stress and worry.
Her father completed primary school, but her mother did not have the opportunity to receive an education. Patience dreams of becoming a doctor so she can use her earnings to support and educate girls from humble backgrounds. She enjoys playing netball, reading novels, and participating in group discussions.
