Ruthvine and I are racing 10 kilometers in support of girls' education. Any money we raise goes directly to Daraja Academy in Kenya and Ruthvine's education. Thank you for your help! Or, as they say in Kenya, ASANTE SANA!
Ruthvine is a 14-year-old Kikuyu girl from Mihang’o, close to Nairobi, and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. Her community has limited resources, with access to healthcare being a significant challenge. She lives with her parents and two sisters in a small two-room stone house. One of her sisters has mild cerebral palsy. Her parents’ limited income barely covers the family’s basic needs, and Ruthvine has experienced interruptions in her schooling due to a lack of fees.
Despite these challenges, Ruthvine has remained committed to her education. In school, she led her music festival group, showing confidence and leadership. In her free time, she loves singing and dancing.
Ruthvine dreams of becoming a lawyer to fight for human rights. She believes that women are the changemakers Kenya needs because they never forget where they come from. She describes Daraja as a place filled with love, care, and warmth that she had never experienced before.
