On January 23, 2002 I worked my first shift as a volunteer for the Humane Society of Broward County in the cattery. Little did I realize on that first day just how much my life would change as a result of volunteering for the HSBC.  In the past 21 years I have been blessed to

  • Care for hundreds of animals looking for their forever families
  • Educate thousands of children through various educational programs offered by the HSBC
  • Educate the general public by representing the HSBC at community events
  • Serve on the Board of Directors as a representative for the Education Committee
  • Create a national award winning character education program focusing on kindness to animals which was piloted at Hollywood Central Elementary, the PEACE Club (People Embracing Animals Can Excel)
  • Serve on the Walk for the Animals Committee
  • Participate in the Animal Assisted Therapy Program with my beloved Cricket visiting schools and JA Biztown in Broward County
  • Photograph hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies, kittens , bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters and ferrets for the HSBC's website
  • Adopt four cats (Milo, Moe, Merlin and Moose) and a dog (Maggie May)

I am thankful to my friend Candy McMillan who encouraged me to volunteer with her at the Humane Society of Broward County 21 years ago. Sadly, Candy passed away in 2018 and I adopted her Animal Assisted Therapy dog Cricket. I was able to honor her memory by continuing her therapy work with Cricket until she passed away in 2020.  I miss them both so very much.

I am participating in the 2023 Walk for the Animals to honor the memories of Candy and Cricket.  I am also walking to give back to this amazing organization which has enriched my life so much through the past 21 years.  I thank you for visiting my fundraising page and appreciate any support that you are able to donate.
