Hello. Yup. It’s that time of year again and this will be my 8th Women Swimmin’.
Last year, we weren’t allowed to swim on August 10, the date of the event, due to stormy weather and high waves. On August 11, I was able to complete the 1.2-mile swim with Paula Cohen, Betsy Shrier and Bonnie Comella.
Again, I’ll be swimming in memory of my beloved father, Morton Corwin, 1929-2023.
In addition, I also swim to honor other wonderful people who I loved and miss so deeply: Arthur Leeds, Joann LaMorte, Stephen Lewis, Marvin Weinstein and most recently, Jerry Koch.
Hospice provides greatly needed and necessary support and comfort to those it serves and their families. I will be forever grateful to the hospice nurses and aids in Florida, where my dad passed and to Ithaca Hospicare which provided grief counseling for me.
My fellow mermaids (lake-matrons?) include Paula Cohen, Beverly Sawyer, Ellen Morris Knower, and our newest participant, Lisa Rabin (all the way from Virginia).
Joel and others will be our “chaperones” in kayaks and canoes. Hoping for a warm, sunny, morning swim.
I swim to raise funds that help Hospicare to:
- Provide vital medications to ease pain and manage symptoms
- Provide specialized medical equipment so patients can stay in their own homes
- Train more volunteers to deliver complementary therapies to enhance comfort and peace
- Offer additional grief counseling sessions
- Continue to provide intensive round-the-clock care at the Hospicare residence for patients who need more care than they can receive in their own homes.
