2020 is shaped up to be a challenging year for all of us including Boys To Men Mentoring Network (BTM), an organization that is near and dear to my heart. I have mentored at Boys To Men for 6 years now. The Covid-19 virus has completely disrupted non-profit organizations like ours, and we are struggling to survive. Boys To Men was founded in 1996 right here in San Diego, but has grown nationally and internationally in scope.

We know the process works, and we’ve seen remarkable positive results in thousands of young men in the 35 partnering schools over the years.

We work with disadvantaged boys who are from fatherless homes, or challenging situations, to prevent the pitfalls of drug addiction, high school dropout, and prison. Statistically, these youth are 20 times more likely to be incarcerated, without any positive role model to lead them. With all the violence and strife going on in the world today, it is more critical than ever that these men in-the-making have guidance in their formative years.

It is our goal to guide them on the path to becoming honest and productive members of society. That’s why even during the pandemic, we are still holding virtual group meetings.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, the 11th anniversary 100 Wave Challenge will be forming small teams, and participating in the fundraiser individually, to practice social distancing for everyone’s safety.

“YOUR CREW, YOUR BEACH, YOUR CHALLENGE” is the theme for this year’s 100 Wave Challenge. Between September 19th and November 23rd, each participant will choose a date and location of their choice, and dive into the water with one goal; to catch 100 waves before the day is through!

As you have probably heard or imagined, it’s awfully hard to catch 100 waves in one day. It is not only taxing on your body, but it’s also a mental challenge to overcome the mental constraints put on you. But it is much harder to grow up without a father. So, we proudly welcome the challenge and pain inflicted in accomplishing the goal of 100 waves in one day.

I am forming a group of around 10 surfers to join me in this quest, and I am shooting for the 3rd week of September. If you are up for the task, please call me!

On the day of our choice, we plan to show up at mission beach, or the beach of our choosing.

Our “Micro 100 Wave Challenge” will keep this vital organization alive, and provide the funds necessary to keep assisting those in desperate need of your help through the 2021 school year.

Please open your hearts and contribute what you can to this worthy cause. My personal goal for this year is to raise $30,000 for Boys to Men Mentoring Network.

Will you help this program stay afloat by donating financially? Weather it is $50 $100, $500 $1000, or more, every dollar counts more than ever!
