This is Ben Settlemyre and I am a current student at Lutheran High School of Indianapolis. I am here to inform you that our yearly Walkathon is back! This years theme is that walking saints and is taking place on October 31st. The reason for this years Walkathon is to help raise money to pay for our new track and all purpose field. I am asking all of you for a small donation ranging from $2-$6 with these donations we can reach our goal of $11,00.
This new track and field has impacted my personal experience here at Lutheran. I play multiple sports that deal with these new improvements including track and football. During my years here i have been able to experience both the old field and track, and compare it to this new one. I would like to say that it has had a major improvement in both our athletes abilities and their training.
My personal improvements from this field and track have changed my experience in sports. I have had injuries from the terrible condition that they were in. During football season my freshmen year i rolled my ankle in a hole which was very painful and restrained me from doing my best in practice and games. That same year during track season I got shin splints which are micro tears in the shin bones or muscle. I got this injury from our track being so worn down that there was not enough rubber on top to absorb the shock of footsteps. This leads to that shock transferring back into the leg which can cause damage such as shin splints. These injuries really impacted my sports achievements limiting how much I could really give and do in sports.
Since the new track and field i have been able to fully reach my potential in sports. I have been able to show my talents in football without having to worry about there being holes in the ground. During the track season i improved immensely from my freshmen year to this day. During freshman year i was only able to high jump 5 feet which is the standard starting height at the high school level. I have improved by 10 inches since then jumping now at a height of 5 feet 10 inches. This has lead me to some great achievements for myself and the school. I won first in multiple meets and made it to regionals along with two other of my track teammates. I have faith in our sports programs being able to grow and develop making a name for Lutheran.
