Butterflies, bees, dragonflies, beetles, spiders, freshwater mussels and other invertebrates sustain life as we know it. Yet many are declining due to habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and more. But there are steps that we can all take to help these vital animals and no action is too small. Sylvan's invertebrate story...

Insects have been a part of my life for more than 2 years now. It started when I began playing a video game called Grounded with my dad. The game was centered around 4 characters being shrunk and surviving in a hostile environment full of terrifying insects. Soon after, I became fascinated with invertebrates. I was amazed by how much I learned through the game and my further research. In my efforts to learn more, I found the website of the Xerces Society, a nonprofit organization protecting invertebrates of all shapes and sizes. The more I learned, the more curious I was. Now, my biggest dream is to become an entomologist.
