I'm going to make a difference for 500 Haitian school children..
Let me tell you a few things about Haiti:
Only 60% of adults can read at a 6th grade level.
Their government does not provide school to rural communities.
The average income is $350 per year.
Some children may not get even one meal a day.
Here's my plan:
I'm supporting the Teaneck Packathon for Haiti on November 9 where hundreds of community volunteers will pack lunches for school children in Haiti. We expect to provide a full-year lunch program for 500 kids in two remote Haitian schools. Volunteers will form assembly lines in the gym at Grace Lutheran Church in Teaneck to pack more than 100,000 meals to be served in the schools in Trois Mares and Chapottin, Haiti. Our meals will be served 4 days a week. For the other day, we want to fund Haitian-sourced lunches to support farms and businesses there. I want to make sure those chldren can count on lunch every weekday through 2020.
Grace Lutheran Church has hosted the Teaneck Packathon for Haiti for several years. Church members donate to the Packathon and help organize the event. They also volunteer on the exciting Packathon day - packing lunches, labeling bags and boxes, helping with volunteer orientation, taking photos, and much more. This year we're hosting a team to help raise more funds to cover the cost of packed lunches and Haitian-sourced lunches Will you help? Together, we really can make a difference!
