To begin my Hospicare story I need to go back to when my step mother was ill and Hospice came in to her home and helped us with her at the end of her life. At that time I knew that someday I wanted to work for an organization like this. Many years later, my Mom was put on hospice and it reinvigorated me to want to work in the field. A couple of years after mom passed away, I was able to get my foot in the door at Hospicare & Palliative Care Services of Tompkins Co., where I started as a receptionist, and have now moved to Revenue Cycle Specialist (and many other roles). I love what I do and I 100% support our mission here and am glad to be doing my part in helping people who are going through what are some of the hardest moments of their lives. in addition to becoming a part of the Hospicare family, I have been on my own journey of self improvement, and through surgery and hard work I have become a more healthy version of myself. One of my big goals I wanted to reach on this journey was to swim across the lake to honor my mother. Flash foward to today, and I now have even more reason for swimming, as just a couple of weeks ago we lost another member of our family, and again hospice was there to guide and support us through this difficult time. So, I have so many reasons to be doing this swim, not just to honor my loved ones, and to obtain a goal, but to raise money and awareness for Hospicare and what they do. It is through this event and others throughout the year that allow us to continue to provide this much needed service to the community. Thank you all for supporting me in this endeavor.
