We're raising money for Capital Cup for Kids!

Mites from around the region will be hitting the ice on Sunday, April 27th from 1:20pm - 2:35pm at the Albany County Hockey Facility as part of Capital Cup for Kids' 2025 Mites Mania event.

Capital Cup for Kids is an adult hockey event that raises funds in support of Building on Love, Capital Cup for Kids, Make A Wish of NE NY and other great local charities. These organizations rally around local families caring for a seriously ill child.

Mites Mania is organized by local teens who love hockey and giving back to their community.  They raise funds for a specific family whose child is battling cancer who serves as the Mites Mania Honorary Captain.

Space is limited. Register your 2017 (8-year-old), 2018 (7-year-old) or 2019 (6-year-old) Mite today.

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of 4 teams, led by certified, highly skilled coaches. Games will be 4 vs 4. All teams will play at least 3 games.

Registration is just $20, and in keeping with the spirit of the Capital Cup for Kids, participants are encouraged to raise funds to help the Mites Mania Honorary Captain's Family.

Meet our Honorary Captain - Maddie -
This year’s Mites Mania is dedicated to her fight.

In the spring of 2023, Maddie just wasn’t herself. Her doctor suspected mono, but when she refused to walk, her pediatrician sent her to the ER at Albany Medical Center. A scan revealed a tumor behind her liver, and doctors feared the worst. The next day, Maddie underwent surgery for a biopsy, port placement, and bone marrow testing.

Days later, her family received the devastating news: Stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma. The cancer had spread to her tibia and abdominal lymph nodes.

Maddie immediately began an aggressive 18-month treatment plan—including chemotherapy, surgery, and proton therapy in New York City. The road was incredibly hard, filled with setbacks and hospital stays, but Maddie kept going with her mom and big sister always by her side.

By early 2025, there was reason to celebrate: Maddie was in remission, and her port was coming out. But just weeks later, joy turned to heartbreak. Scans revealed the cancer had returned.

Now, Maddie is facing an even tougher battle. But her spirit remains fierce, and her strength continues to shine through.

This year, the Capital Cup for Kids is proud to dedicate Mites Mania to Maddie and her family. Let’s surround them with love, support, and strength as they climb this next mountain—together.
