ABOUT ME
My name is Jess Fioretti. I’m a 47 year old wife and mom of two teenage daughters. I live in Jackson, NJ, and am the original coordinator of the Jackson Glow Walk, now in its 3rd year, and collectively, our glow walks gave raised over $150,000 in 3 years for METAvivor.
I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2019 at the age of 39. The years that followed were filled with scans, surgeries, complications and treatments. Cancer had taken so much time from me being a present mom and from my work as a Speech Language Pathologist. After a few years life seemed to be settling into a, “new normal” of life post cancer. Until October of 2023 came and I felt another lump.
In October 2023, at the age of 44, I had learned that not only was the lump a recurrence of my original breast cancer but it had now spread. It had metastasized to my lymphnodes, liver, hilar region, my skull and multiple sites in my bones.
I was floored. I thought for sure this was the end of my story.
It wasn’t until I found the Metastatic Breast Cancer community that I started to read stories of hope. Of women living 10 plus years with Metastatic Breast Cancer, and then I was on a mission. Turning a time of grief and sadness into action and advocacy.
I was determined to actively fight for more life saving research for my own life and the lives of so many others living with this disease. 118 people continue to die in the U.S. every day of metastatic breast cancer. Things need to change.
We need a cure.

WHAT IS #LightUpMBC ?
The #LightUpMBC campaign is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research to benefit METAvivor. Held annually in October, the campaign partners with hundreds of iconic landmarks around the world to illuminate in the symbolic MBC awareness colors of green, teal, and pink. By uniting patients, families, and supporters, #LightUpMBC shines a spotlight on the urgent need for more research and resources to improve outcomes for MBC patients.
#LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. Hosted annually on October 13 on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, this live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. #LightUpMBC Live provides a platform for education and advocacy, highlighting the urgency of funding scientific breakthroughs for the most advanced stage of breast cancer.
