ABOUT ME
I was first diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) at 26 years old in 2012, just two years after my original diagnosis of stage 2B breast cancer. Since then, cancer hasn't been a chapter in my life, it's been a constant. Scans, treatments, uncertainty, side effects, and the emotional weight of living with an incurable disease have become part of my everyday reality. But through it all, I've learned how to keep living fully while carrying all of it.
About 1 in 3 people diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will eventually go on to develop metastatic disease, yet MBC receives only a small fraction of breast cancer research funding. That's a big part of why I speak out and advocate for this community. This mission is also deeply personal.
I'm a mom to twin boys who will turn 2 this July. When you live with something incurable, time stops being adstract; it becomes everything. Every ordinary moment matters in a way I can't fully explain. Bedtime stories, tiny hands in mine, birthday candles, messy mornings, giggles from the backseat; these moments are priceless because I understand how fragile time truly is.
I want people living with MBC to feel seen, I want families to feel supported, and I want the world to understand that metastatic breast cancer is not just a pink ribbon once a year. MBC is a lifelong, life-threatening disease that urgently needs more awareness and research. Help us shine a light on MBC!
WHAT IS #LightUpMBC ?
The #LightUpMBC campaign is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research to benefit METAvivor. Held annually in October, the campaign partners with hundreds of iconic landmarks around the world to illuminate in the symbolic MBC awareness colors of green, teal, and pink. By uniting patients, families, and supporters, #LightUpMBC shines a spotlight on the urgent need for more research and resources to improve outcomes for MBC patients.
#LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. Hosted annually on October 13 on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, this live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. #LightUpMBC Live provides a platform for education and advocacy, highlighting the urgency of funding scientific breakthroughs for the most advanced stage of breast cancer.
