It is time again for The Humane Society of Huron Valley's (HSHV) annual Walk, Wag& Run fundraising event. I realize the difference that one person or one donation can make. All of my friends and family know me as an animal lover and advocate and I am compelled to help every chance I can. Too many dogs and cats are neglected, abused, traumatized and homeless. I just can't turn my back or close my eyes.

The HSHV is a no-kill shelter that facilitated the adoption of over 5,000 animals last year. Along with adoptions, their programs include community education, Lost and found, feral or community cat TNR, pet food/emergency shelter, a Love Train that travels to overcrowded shelters and brings animals to their shelter for adoption, training and behavior by certified animal behaviorists and a low cost spay-neuter program. It's an amazing organization. I am proud to be part of a group so dedicated to assisting animals in so many ways.

All of this takes not just volunteers, but also money. I am asking you to donate to support their incredible work through our foster team. Please know your tax-deductible donation will be used wisely. HSHV is in the top 1% of nonprofits ranked by Charity Navigator, thanks to their fiscal prudence, accountability and transparency.

As author Karen Davidson said, "Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever."
