It's that time of year again! I'm fundraising for Women Swimmin' for Hospicare and I am hoping you would like to donate. It is Saturday, August 10th. It’s the 21st annual event and my 21st time swimming the 1.2 miles across Cayuga Lake. I have not missed a year yet!! Hospicare needs our help now more than ever, and I am glad to do my part.
Each year I get a little slower and the 1.2 miles feel a little longer, as I grow older. I hope I have the energy and stamina to do it once again. I am writing this as the temperature is reaching into the 90’s. The world is feeling fragile, scary, and fractured. I am wondering if I have the ability to raise money during these troublesome, uncertain times. Yet, I am determined to continue to support Hospicare of Tompkins County!
I have started training and will probably swim in the lake when I finish the letter, where the temperature is 68 degrees. I have lots of laps to swim before I am ready to swim the distance. It is more than 200 feet deep out in the middle of Cayuga Lake, and this is always humbling. I am just one small part of the bigger picture.
These past years have been challenging. Seeing donations come in helps me feel that even though I am one small being, I am doing something meaningful. Something that will make a difference!
I have known many people who have used Hospicare’s services to support their end-of-life journey and to help them support their loved ones. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful agency. I am honored to swim and donate to Hospicare to show them my gratitude.
