I recently accepted the challenge to hike 25 miles with a team of biotech execs in California's High Sierras as part of the Timmerman Traverse to support Damon Runyon cancer researchers. Their work has contributed to major breakthroughs in cancer, but there is more to be done! 

Cancer had lurked around my life in too many ways. The grandparents I never met. The aunts and uncles unable to watch their grandkids grow up. My best friends, neighbors and siblings managing through a diagnosis and treatment in their prime. That gut punch when both parents call to tell you they have cancer. And having someone tragically diagnosed and gone in less than 6 months. But this isn’t my story. It’s all of our stories! Everyone I know has similar experiences with their own parents, siblings, friends and co-workers. This is my motivation for the Timmerman Traverse.

Being outside has always been my way of trying to deal with life’s challenges – especially hiking. I’m honored, humbled and grateful to be able to accept and train for this physical challenge to raise funds for cancer research. I will work as hard as I can! 

Since 2017, the Timmerman Traverse has raised more than $15 million for breakthrough science. I am personally committed to raising $35,000 to support the next generation of cancer researchers. Every dollar raised goes to funding young scientists with bold ideas that could impact so many lives for the better.
