Joni RK!

After turning 40 this year I decided to train for my 4th marathon, although I said I’d never do it again. This milestone birthday brought back memories of my 2017 MS diagnosis. The initial shock and fear around potentially not being able to move my body made me decide to keep moving!

Number 3 is my favorite number, and this will be my 3rd time running the NYC marathon.

When I first ran in 2009 I was young, fast, and naive. Ten years later, in 2019, I was running a lot slower, and with a broken heart after losing my father to pancreatic cancer. There was also that MS diagnosis that had come just months after my son Liam was born. Still, I was, full of hope and grit, ready to prove to myself that I could do it, "even with MS.".

Now it’s 2022 and I’m running again.  I started training earlier, and I'm listening to my body, and my heart, which is a little less broken. Sometimes when I'm running through the streets early in the morning, trying to squeeze in the miles before the kids are up, I find myself crying, happy, thankful tears, that I can do this for myself and my family. I also believe in the research Tisch is doing. Bring on the stem cells!

Please help me continue to believe in myself, and in the future, by donating whatever you can.
