Emmaculate and I are racing 10 kilometers in support of girls' education. Any money we raise goes directly to Daraja Academy in Kenya and Emmaculate's education. Thank you for your help! Or, as they say in Kenya, ASANTE SANA!
Emmaculate is a 14-year-old Kalenjin girl from Tumoiyut village in Bomet East and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She comes from a rural community where most families earn a living from picking tea leaves, often facing challenges such as drought and limited resources. Emmaculate lives with both her parents and five siblings in a mud-and-grass house. She often missed school to help harvest tea leaves to earn money to cover the family’s basic needs.
Despite these challenges, she remained committed to her education. At school, Emmaculate was a student leader and active member of the Christian Union. She enjoys handball, debate club, and working with numbers and charts, which help her develop critical thinking skills. She loves analyzing problems, understanding how things work, and exploring science.
Emmaculate would like to pursue a career in medicine as a cardiac surgeon. She describes feeling both excited and surprised upon arriving at Daraja, she had never met such friendly and welcoming people.
