Joylin and I are racing 10 kilometers in support of girls' education. Any money we raise goes directly to Daraja Academy in Kenya and Joylin's education. Thank you for your help! Or, as they say in Kenya, ASANTE SANA!
Joylin is a 16-year-old Meru girl from Kisauni in Mombasa and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She comes from a densely populated area frequently affected by floods, where many families face daily challenges. Joylin lives with her single mother and older brother in a small one-room stone house. Her mother works as a casual labourer and is the sole provider for the family, often struggling to cover basic needs.
Despite these challenges, Joylin has remained dedicated to her education. In school, Joylin served as a headgirl, lab prefect, and class captain, demonstrating strong leadership and responsibility. She enjoys helping others, journalism, and socializing with her friends.
Joylin dreams of becoming a doctor so she can care for the sick and make a positive impact in her community. For Joylin, arriving at Daraja was an unforgettable experience, and she had never seen such love.
