Evelyne is a 17-year-old Kikuyu girl from Laikipia and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She comes from a village called Kijabe, a rural community where many families depend on livestock and small-scale farming, often facing drought and food insecurity. Evelyne lives with her mother and six siblings in a small timber house. Her mother works as a casual labourer and did not have the chance to complete her own education. Providing for the family has been difficult, and Evelyne often went to school hungry and tired.
Despite these challenges, she has remained determined to continue her education. Evelyne is a strong leader and served as the cabinet secretary of academics at her school. She enjoys public speaking, reading, listening to music, and drawing. Evelyne dreams of becoming an architectural engineer and hopes to one day build a house for her mother.
For Evelyne, Daraja is a place where she feels loved and accepted for who she is.
