Fatuma is a 16-year-old Borana girl from Isiolo and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She has grown up in a remote village where access to education, electricity, and healthcare is limited. Fatuma lives with her parents and two siblings in a two-room timber house. They have a small kitchen where they cook using firewood.
A major challenge in her life has been the lack of financial stability to meet basic needs. She shares that she often wondered when those gaps would be filled. Now that she is at Daraja, she feels the immense value of this opportunity and feels supported by her fellow sisters, who make her feel loved and appreciated.
Fatuma loves reading because it takes her into an imaginary world. She also enjoys playing netball, but what makes her happiest is spending time with her younger brother and exploring the outdoors.
