I'm racing for Haodo!
Haodo's Story
“I am proud to be a woman, we have a special place in this world.” -Haodo
Haodo is a 16-year-old Pokomo girl from the Tana Delta region and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She comes from a small village called Mchelelo, where resources are scarce and life is dramatically affected by dry seasons and floods. Haodo lives with her widowed mother and six siblings in a simple two-room mud house. Her mother supports the family through maize farming, but providing school fees and basic needs has often been a struggle. Haodo grew up helping her mother with work and walking about an hour to school along unsafe, bushy paths.
Despite these challenges, Haodo has remained committed to her education. She was trusted with managing the school store for two years, showing responsibility and trustworthiness. She enjoys netball, music, drama, reading, and socializing with others.
Haodo dreams of becoming a nurse so she can care for others and give back to her community. For Haodo, arriving at Daraja felt like coming home, welcomed by people who see the beauty in her.
