Evangeline and I are racing 10 kilometers in support of girls' education. Any money we raise goes directly to Daraja Academy in Kenya and Evangeline's education. Thank you for your help! Or, as they say in Kenya, ASANTE SANA!
Quote: "Gender equality is the future for educated women." -Evangeline
Evangeline may come across as reserved, but she has a sharp sense of humor. After being abandoned by her family, she now lives in Isiolo with a kind well-wisher. She tried to help her guardian by working on a neighbor’s farm for $3 per day, but the little money she received did not go far enough. Evangeline is intelligent and was sponsored by the Samburu County Catholic Church to go to boarding school and complete her primary education. Samburu County is greatly affected by drought, and Evangeline had to walk six kilometers in search of water.
Now at Daraja, Evangeline spends less time on survival and gets to have a little fun by playing soccer, participating in athletics, reading books, and learning about who she is. She is studious in her focus on education. She believes that with education, more women will take up leadership positions and participate in critical decision-making issues.
