Cecilia is a quiet, yet ever-smiling 16-year-old girl from Ngarariga, Nyeri County, located in the central part of Kenya. As the firstborn, she lives with her mother, three siblings, and grandparents. In her area, families rely on selling secondhand clothes and subsistence farming. Cecilia's primary school was five kilometers away, and she walked to and from it every day. Often, she was sent home for school fees and not having enough books to study with. However, when Cecilia was in school, she showed strong accountability and held a leadership position.
Her favorite subjects are History and Government, but she also enjoys singing and dancing in her free time. Cecilia is passionate about being a journalist to create awareness for other girls to learn that their voices matter.
