Shifrah is a 15-year-old Meru girl from Ngarendare sub-location in Buuri West and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She lives with her father and six other family members in a three-room house made of timber and mud. Her parents separated when she was young.
In primary school, Shifrah was often sent home due to a lack of school fees, which exposed her to ridicule from neighbors, and at times her family went hungry. Despite these challenges, she demonstrated remarkable leadership and responsibility as a scout commander, always ensuring the scout compound was clean.
She loves farming, a passion she developed from her grandmother, and she finds strength in prayer. Shifrah dreams of becoming a doctor in Meru County, where she hopes to help address the need for more female doctors. She sees Daraja as the bridge that will help her achieve her dreams.
