Sharon is a Luhya girl from Teso South in Busia County and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. Two months after her birth, her parents separated, and her father later passed away. Sharon moved with her mother to Uganda, where she lived for ten years. There, she attended school with very limited supplies and often walked barefoot. She was forced to pause her education for two years in Grade 3.
Sharon later returned to Kenya and came under the care of her aunt. Adjustments to her official records created challenges with her sense of identity, as her age was legally reduced by three years. Despite working hard as a farmer, her aunt faces financial difficulties.
Despite these challenges, Sharon has remained committed to her education. In primary school, she served as a library prefect. She enjoys weaving and playing basketball. Sharon dreams of becoming a chef and one day building a large hotel where people from different cultures can come together. She describes coming to Daraja as a moment of happiness and a realization that nothing is impossible.
