Scola is a 16-year-old Maasai girl from Laikipia North and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She grew up in a family of ten, living with her parents and siblings. Her mother farms for neighbors, and her father works as a casual laborer. Neither of her parents attended school.
Scola’s greatest challenge has been finding moments of joy in her life due to constant hunger at home. School was usually the place where she received her only meal of the day. This also allowed her to have energy in school and pursue her motivation as a Christian Union leader for her fellow students.
Her passion for advising others is reflected in her dream of becoming a nutritionist to promote a healthier community. She also enjoys playing netball, handball, and singing, as these activities help her relax. Scola shares that Daraja has made her feel like an important person in her own life.
