Sake is a 16-year-old Borana girl from Marsabit and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She grew up in a village in the Sakuu constituency. Sake lives together with her mother and siblings in a small home made out of cow dung. Her father was polyamorous and left when Sake was young.
She describes the struggle of trying to find food while her mother was too ill to work. This has been a catalyst for Sake's dream of becoming a doctor, so she can cure people like her mother and give them a better life. She also shares that she loves playing volleyball because it keeps her healthy and strong, allowing her to support her family in the future.
Having faced many challenges, Sake recalls the powerful emotions she felt when she first saw her Daraja sisters and teachers. In that moment, she felt like the happiest girl in the world.
