Purity is a 17-year-old Maasai girl from Naivasha, Nakuru, and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. She is the firstborn in a family of seven children and lives with her parents and siblings in a traditional manyatta with two rooms. Her greatest challenges have included managing the responsibilities of being the firstborn and standing up against traditional practices in her community, such as female genital mutilation (FGM).
She had to be strong to convince her father that her education was more important. At her previous school, Purity served as the games captain and helped train her fellow students before competitions. She enjoys playing sports and reading, as she says these activities help build her self-esteem.
Purity aspires to become a nurse so she can act as a change agent in her community and advocate for girls’ education. She believes Daraja is the bridge that will help her achieve this dream.
